A Guardian Home is a forever family for one of our future breeding dogs. Your dog lives with you full-time as a beloved family member while remaining a part of our ethical breeding program. Once their breeding career is complete, ownership is transferred fully to you.

Our Guardian Males are raised as beloved family companions while also playing an important role in our breeding program.
Once health testing is complete and your dog has been approved for breeding, he may be scheduled for breeding appointments or semen collections. Most visits are brief and planned well in advance.
When his breeding career is complete, Island Doodles will cover the cost of his neuter, and full ownership will officially transfer to your family. He will then spend the rest of his life exactly where he belongs—with the family who has loved him since puppyhood.

Our Guardian Females live with their Guardian Families as cherished pets while remaining an important part of our breeding program.
After passing all required health testing and reaching the appropriate age, she may have a limited number of carefully planned litters. During breeding, she will stay with us for a few days before returning home throughout her pregnancy.
Approximately one week before her due date, she will come back to Island Doodles to safely deliver and raise her puppies. Once the puppies are fully weaned—typically around 6-8weeks of age—she returns to her Guardian Family.
After completing her breeding career, Island Doodles will cover the cost of her spay, and full ownership will be transferred to your family so she can enjoy the rest of her life as your beloved companion.

Guardian Placement Fee
A Small Investment. A Lifetime Commitment.
Our Guardian Home Program requires a $500 Guardian Placement Fee.
Although our guardian dogs are placed at a fraction of the cost of one of our companion puppies, we believe a small placement fee helps ensure each dog is welcomed into a committed, loving home.
Guardian dogs become cherished members of your family, and we ask every applicant to carefully consider the responsibility before applying. While we understand that unexpected life circumstances can happen, our goal is to place each dog with a family that is prepared for the long-term commitment of the Guardian Program.
This fee reflects the value of the opportunity while helping us place our dogs in stable, forever homes.

What is a Guardian Home?

A Guardian Home is a family that welcomes one of our carefully selected breeding dogs into their home as a beloved pet. While Island Doodles retains breeding rights during the dog’s breeding career, your dog lives with you full-time and is treated as a member of your family. Once they retire from our program full ownership is transferred to you.
Who pays for veterinary expenses?

Guardian Families are responsible for routine veterinary care, including annual wellness exams, vaccinations, flea/tick and heartworm prevention, and any non-breeding related medical expenses.
Island Doodles covers all breeding-related veterinary expenses, including required health testing, reproductive care, pregnancy, whelping, and the spay or neuter procedure upon retirement.
How many litters will my female have?

Every dog is different, but our females typically have 1-4 carefully planned litters before retiring from our program. We always prioritize the health and well-being of our dogs and reserve the right to retire any dog earlier if we believe it is in their best interest.
Can I travel with my Guardian Dog?

Absolutely! Your Guardian Dog is your family pet and should enjoy life with you. We simply ask that you communicate any travel plans with us, especially if your dog may be approaching a breeding cycle or scheduled appointment, so we can plan accordingly.
What happens after my dog retires?

Once your dog’s breeding career is complete, Island Doodles will arrange and pay for their spay or neuter procedure. After recovery, full ownership is officially transferred to your family, and your dog remains your cherished companion for the rest of their life.
What happens if my circumstances change?

We understand that unexpected life events can happen. If you are ever unable to continue caring for your Guardian Dog, we ask that you contact us immediately.
Our Guardian Dogs should never be surrendered to a shelter, rescue, or rehomed without our approval. We will always work with you to determine the best solution and ensure the dog remains safe and well cared for.
